Pebble Beach

N Pebble Beach Dr., Crescent City, California 95531

Pebble Beach in Crescent City runs along a dramatic stretch of the northern California coast between Battery Point and Point St. George, with a series of connected coves that feel more secluded than many beach destinations. You can park along either South or North Pebble Beach Drive and access the water fairly easily, which matters when you’re hauling dog gear and trying not to make a million trips.

The beach itself is rocky and pebbly—hence the name—with sand mixed in depending on where you walk. Your dog can come along on leash, which opens up the whole coastline for exploration. The waves roll in with real force here, so it’s better for dogs who are comfortable in bigger water or who just want to splash in the shallows. The pebbles can get warm on a sunny day, so pay attention to your dog’s paws if you’re out for a longer stretch.

What makes this spot special is how quiet it feels, especially compared to some of California’s more crowded beach destinations. You’ll see surfers in wetsuits if the swells are right, and the rocky formations jut out in interesting ways that create little tide pools and protected areas. Storm watching in winter is incredible here—the waves crash against those rocks with real power, and you can stand back safely while your dog watches the show.

The ocean water is cold year-round, typical for this part of the coast, so don’t expect leisurely swimming unless you’re the hardy type. Mornings tend to be calmer and less crowded. Bring fresh water for your dog since salt water and sand will make them thirsty. The nearby town of Crescent City has a few cafes if you want to grab something after your beach time, though you’ll want to rinse off first—the salt and pebbles get everywhere.
