Pets Without Partners is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Redding that operates on a straightforward mission: every dog deserves a chance at happiness with a loving family. They take in dogs from overcrowded shelters throughout California, giving them a fresh start when circumstances have left them without homes. The organization also steps in when dog owners pass away, handling both the medical needs and rehoming process so those dogs aren’t left stranded.

When a dog arrives at Pets Without Partners, they go through a complete medical and behavioral assessment. That means vaccinations, microchipping, spay or neuter surgery, and any other veterinary care the dog needs. If a dog has behavioral issues or needs training, they get that attention too. The staff then matches each dog with a home that fits both the dog’s personality and the family’s situation. It’s not about moving dogs quickly—it’s about making the right fit.

Beyond individual adoptions, they’re invested in the local Shasta County community. They sponsor spay and neuter surgeries for dogs in the area to help prevent the shelter overflow problem before it starts. They’ve also partnered with the local VFW to address training needs and help identify dogs suited for specific tasks, whether that’s service work or other specialized roles.

If you’re in the Redding area thinking about adoption, or you know someone dealing with rehoming a dog after losing its owner, Pets Without Partners takes on cases that other shelters might turn away. They’re working with real constraints—limited space, limited funding—but they keep showing up for dogs that need them. Visiting to meet available dogs or learning more about their work gives you a sense of how committed they are to this community.
