Walter Haas Dog Play Area

Addison St. & Farnum St., San Francisco, California 94131

The Walter Haas Dog Play Area, also known as Diamond Heights or Haas Park, sits on a hill in the Diamond Heights neighborhood with views stretching across downtown San Francisco and the bay. Located right on the border between Glen Park and Diamond Heights, this four-acre public park recently underwent renovation and now feels like a different place than it was a few years back.

The dog area is fully fenced, which means your dog can run off-leash and socialize with other dogs without worry. The space has natural terrain with boulders scattered throughout—older or less agile dogs can wander the grassy areas while younger dogs enjoy scrambling over the rocks for exercise. There’s a water fountain for dogs, which is especially helpful on warmer days when you’ll want to take breaks in the shade.

Beyond the dog area, the park itself has plenty of appeal. You’ll find a playground and basketball court if you’re visiting with kids or want to make it a longer outing. The setting feels a bit removed from the bustling neighborhoods below, so even though you’re in the city, it has a quieter feel than some of San Francisco’s more crowded dog parks.

The main thing to remember is to bring poop bags—they’re not provided, and cleanup is expected. The park gets regular use from locals, so keeping it clean makes a difference for everyone who comes through. If you’re already in Glen Park or nearby, Haas Park is worth the short trip. On clear days, those views alone make the walk up worthwhile, and your dog will get solid playtime with a decent variety of other dogs and terrain to explore.
