On Saturday, June 7, join CalAnimals, the San Francisco SPCA, and the ASPCA for the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day! Help them reach the goal of finding loving homes for 5,000 pets across the state. With more than 150 animal shelters participating, this is your chance to meet your perfect match.
California Adopt-a-Pet Day is a statewide adoption event where participating shelters across California waive adoption fees* for one day to help pets find loving homes. Last year, 3,609 pets were adopted during this special event! By adopting, you’re not only welcoming a new best friend into your life, you’re also supporting shelters and their lifesaving work.
Shelters will have a variety of pets looking for homes, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, equines, and more!
Most shelters will welcome walk-ins to make adoptions as easy as possible. The goal of California Adopt-a-Pet Day is to open shelter doors, build excitement about adoption, and find loving homes for as many pets as possible.
Some shelters may offer appointments for a more personalized experience or to meet specific pets, so we recommend checking with your local shelter in advance. No matter how you visit your shelter, staff and volunteers are excited to help you find your new best friend.
Find a list of participating shelters by visiting the Find a Shelter page of the event website.
Shelters are full of wonderful animals. Come on in to find your perfect companion!
