Ferndale: a charming village to bark about

By: DogTrekker Staff
A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

Registered Veterinary Technician, Chris P., recently wrote in to tell us about her visit to Ferndale, a charming, dog-friendly destination in Humboldt County. Here’s what she had to say:

Ferndale is a wonderful, self-billed Victorian village located in Humboldt County. Its Main Street is filled with a variety of businesses including artisan shops, upscale dining, an art gallery, cowboy bar, local department store, and a wonderful theater for live entertainment.

I love that all of the businesses in Ferndale are locally owned. We loved the Chicken Pot Pie at the Ferndale Omelette Factory, and the cherry pie from the Ferndale Pie Company was divine. The beautiful Shaw House Inn allows dogs. There is even a little patio so your dog has outdoor access.

The ocean beaches just outside of town are dog-friendly, as are many of the river’s shores. You cannot go wrong here; there simply is no room for mediocrity in this old-fashioned slice of Americana.
