Great places to sit, stay and play

Four fluffy dogs in red harnesses rest in a stylish outdoor seating area of a chic Sacramento hotel. The setting features white drapes and wooden decor. One dog relaxes on a couch, another lies on the floor, while two others perch on raised wooden platforms, all appearing relaxed and content.

Sacramento’s lodging properties include both major brands and boutique gems. You’ll find amenities galore and alternatives for any budget, whether you book a quiet escape or something in the heart of the action. Several Sacramento hotels roll out the welcome mat for dogs, dishing up welcome treats, pet beds and other thoughtful features.

The Hyatt Regency sits along downtown Sacramento’s Capitol Park, a 40-acre playground with gardens, groves, memorials and walking paths. From here, it’s a short stroll to the Crocker Art Museum, Capitol Mall and Old Sacramento waterfront. Expect on-site dining, free internet, and access to pool and fitness facilities, plus doggie treats and comfortable beds for four-legged guests.

Conveniently located just off Interstate 5, the Westin Sacramento fronts the city’s riverfront recreation trail. Rent a bike, play some bocce ball, schedule a spa visit, or gather around the fire pits after dinner. Scott’s Seafood on the River offers waterfront patio seating, and the property’s large lawn is great for walks with the dog, too.

Other Sacramento hotels include boutique options like the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel and the Hyatt Centric, in the Downtown Commons (DOCO) area. The Sheraton Grand, Residence Inn and Citizen Hotel also welcome pups. The pet-friendly Hilton Sacramento Arden West is 10 minutes from downtown and Cal Expo events, and it has a free Arden Fair Mall shuttle.
