As its name suggests, Haven Humane Society has been providing a safe place to land for the Redding area's stray, abandoned, and otherwise homeless animals since 1952. Currently under construction, its new Anne Morgan Adoption Center, due to open this fall, will make things even better by doubling the shelter's capacity to house dogs and cats waiting for their new families.
One of those dogs is Alex here. This handsome Lab/shepherd boy is around a year old and a graduate of Haven Humane's Camp Love-a-Pet, a popular summer program in which local kids pick up dog skills by training a shelter dog. An active young guy, Alex has some history as an escape artist, so his new home should probably have both secure fencing and people whose lifestyle will include him and keep him busy.
Help dogs like Alex and check out the wares of area vintners at Haven Humane's 5th Annual Bark & Wine gala, coming up October 6 at the Red Lion Hotel in Redding. Besides music, wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres, there's a auction of awesome items donated by local businesses.
