As always, Leave Only Paw Prints

A beagle with a brown, white, and black coat walks along a forest path in Crockett Hills Regional Park. Green foliage lines the path, and sunlight filters through the trees.

Wherever you roam this winter, please travel responsibly and remember to Leave Only Paw Prints. Many California destinations and park associations support this DogTrekker campaign that encourages people to tread lightly and help preserve nature access for our four-legged family members.

A green and beige sign stands at the trailhead, welcoming visitors with dogs to a network of trails designed for shared enjoyment. At its heart is a call to action: “Help keep our trails beautiful and dog friendly.” Below this message, six clear guidelines are listed, each aimed at promoting responsible hiking with canine companions. Visitors are gently reminded to "Leave Only Paw Prints, Travel Lightly," asking everyone to contribute to the ongoing preservation of these paths as a safe and welcoming sanctuary for all creatures who wander them.

The Leave Only Paw Prints stewardship values are simple. Be mindful of basic preparation and safety measures when you’re hitting the trails. Follow posted rules and be considerate of other people, dogs and animals you might encounter along the way. Only go off leash if your dog responds to voice commands. Take steps to protect California’s precious wildlife, and always pack in and out to keep trails clean and safe.
