Make time for trees

By: DogTrekker Staff

Every home that celebrates Christmas needs a Christmas tree, and there’s nothing like choosing and cutting your own to ensure fresh scent throughout the house all season long. Santa’s Tree Farm, a fixture in Half Moon Bay since 1972, encourages four-legged family members to wander the rows and to help choose the Monterey pine; redwood; or Douglas, Monterey, white, noble or grand fir that will make the perfect statement.  And what would a tree farm be without a Santa’s Village? At this one, Indoor and outdoor activities include stocking decorating, treasure hunts, holiday characters, a Santa Express ride, seasonal sweets and, of course, a gift shop. Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves love dogs but do request that they be leashed.

That same simple rule applies at Rancho Siempre Verde, a 45-year-old Christmas tree farm that many families in the region factor into their holiday traditions. Take a tractor ride, roast marshmallows by a blazing fire, make a wreath, romp in the hay or picnic on a hillside overlooking the Pacific. Swinging on swings—big ones, small ones, tire swings, rope swings, double and triple swings—is a signature activity, and swings can be found all over the property. Tots will enjoy banging on two giant xylophones—perhaps with Spot barking along! Siempre Verde promises no plastic Santas and no long lines; just a rural and relaxed farm atmosphere.
