Serenity by the Sea

By: DogTrekker Staff

All the trails are clearly marked from Highway 1 at Black Point near the Sonoma/Mendocino county line, and restrooms and parking lots are provided.

So why spend the night (or two or three or five) when you can visit these trails and beaches on a day trip and be done? Because the Sea Ranch, developed in the 1960s and noted for its distinctive, minimalist architecture and serene setting, seems like a new discovery whether it’s your first visit or your 50th. About half the 1,800 homes here are vacation rentals, many of them dog-friendly. For stays of just a few days, Sea Ranch Lodge welcomes canine guests with beds, snacks, sheets to cover furniture and bowls for food and water. Don’t forget some old towels for the inevitable sandy paws, and be sure to adhere to the community’s strict “clean up your dog mess” code of behavior. (Don’t worry, management will fill you in.)
