A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

Shopping with a dog can be problematic—unless, of course, you’re shopping for the dog. A best bet for yourself and for Fido is the merrily lit, boutique-lined stretch of Union Street west of Van Ness in San Francisco, where many merchants don’t bat an eye at well-behaved canine visitors.

The standout stop for dog lovers: Le Marcel, a dog bakery where made-from-scratch treats such as Terriermisu, Peanut Mutter cookies and Beastro Biscotti are baked daily. Humans are invited enjoy bring-your-own refreshments on the “Pawtio” out back while pooches explore the safely fenced environment.

Ghirardelli Square is another good shopping area for dog-walkers, and Yap Wraps is the place to shop for animal-motif merchandise and gear ranging from fun (dog hoodies) to functional (Smart Yap Harnesses). Does Bingo need a bath before going back to your hotel room? At either of two Pawtrero locations, you can scrub up before stocking up on food, treats and toys.
