Sniff and smell the apples

El Dorado

September in El Dorado County means apples—lots and lots of apples and all the good things, from cider to pie, that go with them. More than 50 family-owned ranches on the north side of Highway 50 between Placerville and Pollock Pines count themselves as Apple Hill Growers, and it’s a rare property indeed that doesn’t welcome visitors with dogs during the busy fall season.

Farm-fresh baked goods, Christmas trees, wineries, a craft brewery and tons of family fun are on tap for those who venture into the foothills between Labor Day and Christmas. Things get so busy on October weekends that shuttle buses are put into play.

Apple Hill isn’t the only part of El Dorado County that welcomes autumn DogTrekkers. Check out the county’s Farm Trails Guide for more ideas on places to go and things to do in this region of Northern California. Dog-friendly establishments listed in the guide are conveniently marked with a paw print. Visit the El Dorado County website here.
