The map of Lake County is dominated by Clear Lake, a popular vacation spot with many dog-friendly places to cuddle up for a night or two with your best friend.
Water activities are of course a big attraction, but a wine industry has flourished here since the 1850s, and the region that calls itself California’s Undiscovered Wine Country encourages visitors to explore its high-elevation wineries and in-town tasting rooms.
You and your dog will get a warm welcome at Six Sigma Ranch and Winery, Steele Wines and Thorn Hill Vineyards, to name just a few of many places where you can sip and swirl with Bonnie by your side.
At Beaver Creek Vineyards, you can also learn about certified organic and bio-dynamic winemaking and sample the difference at the tasting bar.
Shed Horn Cellars maintains a quaint and comfortable tasting room in Middletown, while Terrill Cellars’ dog-friendly tasting room is next to the post office in Lower Lake—perfect for Clear Lake vacationers.
If you drive this far, you’ll of course need a base camp for you and your four-legged kids.
Edgewater Resort & RV Park has 600 feet of frontage on Clear Lake’s Soda Bay, plus a fishing pier, clubhouse and many other amenities.
The Lodge at Blue Lakes, in Upper Lake, welcomes smaller dogs (under 35 pounds) with amenities including an agility course and weekend summer camps for dogs.
If you’re hanging at the lake but not staying there, head for Clear Lake State Park in Kelseyville, but be sure to follow the rules when it comes to furry visitors.
Your pup is welcome in your campsite and at day-use areas, but the only place it’s legal to go for a dip is within the non-designated beach area between campsites 57 and 58.
