Home at Last Animal Rescue originated through a close affiliation with the Berkeley Animal Shelter in the late 1990s. It began as a small group of volunteers who were dedicated to getting the dogs out on a daily basis for walks. Most of the dogs didn't have names or any description of any kind. The euthanasia rate was high. Home at Last received their 501(c) status in 1997 and along with many other burgeoning rescue groups, were able to impact the number of both cats and dogs rescued by getting them out of the shelter and into foster homes until they could find their forever homes. Home at Last was also able to receive funding resulting from a contract with the Berkeley Animal Shelter, and since has been the grateful recipient of grant monies and donations used for the medical care and rehabilitation for many of these rescued animals.
Home at Last holds their mobile adoption events every Saturday at 1806 4th St. in Berkeley, from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m., and on the first Sunday of every month at Petco in Emeryville, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
