Dog-friendly Nevada Beach is located about a mile from the parking lot at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive in Zephyr Cove, just north of the Lakeside Resort Casino. This .7-mile-long stretch is one of Tahoe’s most beautiful beaches, though only a portion welcomes dogs. The dog-friendly sand sits adjacent to Nevada Beach Campground, where dogs are allowed in campsites but not in picnic areas near the water.
Finding the right section takes a bit of navigation. Follow the signs and trails toward the boat-in picnic beach—that’s where the dog-friendly strand is. Once you reach the sand, stay right of the fenced-off private beach and left of the orange buoy marking the campground swimming area. During peak season from mid-May through mid-October, you can access the beach via the campground for a day-use fee.
The area offers plenty beyond just beach time. A paved bike trail winds through the section, and a maze of hiking trails threads through the bordering Toiyabe National Forest. The historic Lam Watah Trail starts from the free parking lot at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive and takes about a mile to reach the beach. If you prefer a longer outing, these forest trails are solid for exploring with your dog away from the crowds.
If you want to stay overnight, Nevada Beach Campground accommodates dogs in their campsites. Reservations can be made as far as six months in advance, which is worth planning ahead for during summer months. The campground setup means you’re right on the lake, so you can easily swing by the beach multiple times during your stay. The combination of accessible parking, clearly marked trails, and a legitimate dog-friendly beach section makes this a straightforward choice if you’re spending time on the south shore.
