Jed Steele, founding winemaker of Kendall-Jackson, established Steele and Shooting Star Wines in 1991, co-leasing a small winery until the summer of 1996 when he purchased and opened the old Konocti Winery between Lakeport and Kelseyville.

In 2002, Jed and his son Quincy Steele, began a small project which became the new label named Writer’s Block, which has blossomed into an acclaimed line of wines.

While water activities are of course a big attraction in Lake County, more than 30 wineries, most with dog-friendly picnic areas and tasting rooms, welcome visitors in what is one of the fastest growing wine regions in the country.
