This Spanish-style winery's tasting room and grounds are dog-friendly.

If you’re into cigars, you’ll be pleased to know that facilities include a humidor stocked with Rocky Patel and Drew Estate stogies.

Tempranillo is the signature wine at a family-run facility that also produces Cabernet Franc, Mourvedre, red blends and a crisp sauvignon blanc.

It's a great place to visit after a hike or bike trip. If you're with a group, ask about ordering a fully-loaded picnic basket to enjoy on arrival. A pond on the premises is perfect for canine water lovers.

Please check winery website for days and hours of operation.

Hundreds of square miles of national forests and other public lands make Placer County a DogTrekker hotspot. Highway 49 runs south from Auburn, the county seat, to access 35,000-acre Auburn State Recreation Area hugging two forks of the American River. Hidden Falls Regional Park is delightful in fall even if the falls aren’t running, while at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park, you can hike to the river and watch the whitewater rafters go by. more »

Save time for them, by all means, but don’t pass up open-space gems such as 30,000-acre Auburn State Recreation Areamore »

Placer Dogs - George Lamesom (CC)
The contemporary wine industry in Placer County, while young, is gaining steam and recognition, turning out wines that impressed the judges at the 2014 California State Fair and rolling out the welcome mat for visitors with two legs and four. Most of the 20 wineries and tasting rooms on the Placer County Wine Trail are situated north of Interstate 80 near Auburn and Loomis. Almost all welcome tail-waggers, so pick a region to explore and let serendipity be your guide.   more »
