Homestead Trail (the cross hike), Palm Desert

By: DogTrekker Staff
A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

The dog-friendly Homestead Trail (also known as The Cross Hike) snakes up the side of Shadow Mountain to a giant illuminated cross that is thought to be a spiritual trek for some, as well as a quiet spot for you and your dog to relax and meditate above it all.

The trail takes you up 689 feet, with plenty of Instagram-worthy beautiful vistas to take in along the way. Sunrise and sunset offer especially breathtaking views of the palm trees, swimming pools, and golf courses below. (Just bear in mind that there are typically more people on the trail during these times.)

Homme Adams is a great place to start out for a 2.2 mile loop. It is home to 27 acres of nature space as well as picnic seating. And the best part – plenty of room for dogs to run off leash! Parking is available in an unpaved lot off Thrush Road.

Don’t miss this beautiful Palm Desert local landmark.

Activity Level: Moderate
