A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

We all have our favorite family recipes for Thanksgiving. Here’s a healthy pet meal, provided by Linda McGlothen of Sacramento, that incorporates leftovers to make dogs very happy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1/4 lb chopped or ground turkey
  • 1 small carrot, chopped or grated
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1 cup unseasoned stuffing bread cubes
  • 1/2 T butter or margarine
  • 1/2 T flour
  • 2 Cups turkey or chicken broth
Directions:

In a medium skillet. heat the olive oil. Add the turkey and cook about two minutes, then add chopped carrot and cook five minutes more. Add peas and put heat on low. Stir in bread cubes and remove from heat.

In another pan or skillet, melt the butter or margarine over medium heat. Whisk in flour, then add one cup of stock and cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about three minutes. Remove from heat.

Soften the mixture in the first skillet with the remaining cup of stock. Place in dog bowl and let cool five minutes. Top with gravy, cool to room temperature and watch Fido lap it up.

Please keep in mind that this recipe is well-balanced for healthy dogs, but may not be a good bet if your dog must restrict fat intake.
