Make the short drive south and east of Sacramento to reach the Amador and El Dorado wine regions. Select local wineries and breweries here welcome dogs on sunny tasting room patios. Between sipping stops, cool off on tree-lined trails or snack on flavorful, farm-grown bites at picnic tables surrounded by parkland. Then, swing through Sutter Creek for a self-guided historic walking tour with your pup.

Leashed dogs can visit the tasting room and picnic pavilion at Helwig and the patio at family-owned Julietta Winery. Iron Hub Winery also accommodates pups at open-air tables, and the venue has outdoor games for families. Area vineyards often host live music and seasonal events, while the Berry Sweet Summer Festival in Plymouth celebrates fresh flavors with two days of family-friendly activities. (Not all local events welcome pups, so always confirm policies ahead of a visit.)

Amador County’s A-PAL Humane Society hosts pet-friendly holiday gatherings, adopt-a-thons, community walks and fundraisers throughout the year in cities like Sutter Creek and Jackson. Watch the organization’s website and Facebook page for the latest updates.

Local food trucks frequently visit the region’s pet-friendly brewery patios. Amador Brewing Company pours ambers, porters, IPAs and more at locations in Plymouth and Pine Grove. Both Amador County spots have outdoor seating. Pups grace the labels and signage at Jack Russell Farm Brewery, about 50 miles east of Sacramento in El Dorado County. There’s a sprawling outdoor beer garden, English- and American-style brews, and bites ranging from pizzas to pulled pork sandwiches.
