Mmmmm tacos! Concord has long been home to deliciously authentic, family-owned taquerias and restaurants. The Concord Taco Trail has 40+ places offering specialty and signature tacos including al pastor, carnitas, carne asada, crispy fish, grilled tilapia, vegitariano, and even filet mignon. Most of them are dog-friendly. Will you be the 2023 Taco Trail Champion? You have until October 15, so get on it!
Autumn is a great time to check out Concord. The weather is generally perfect for a walk around town or one of the many parks close to Concord (need to walk off those tacos!). One of Concord’s famous citizens was Dave Brubeck, famous pianist and composer of both jazz and classical music. The Dave Brubeck park in Concord has a nice meadow to play and a concrete stage, with lots of music and community events. Dogs on leash are welcome.
Concord also has a few dog parks. One of our favorites is the Paw Patch in the Newhall Community Park. The Paw Patch (PDF) is a secure, fenced area where dogs can exercise off-leash. There is one reservable group picnic area in a secluded creek-side setting with large oak trees. A Vietnam War Memorial graces the vista point.
There are many trails where you can go with your dog on leash within easy striking distance of Concord including Lime Ridge Open Space, and the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve near Antioch, a 5,375-acre oasis as interesting for its coal-mining history and artifacts as for its 64 miles of pet-friendly trails meandering over a hilly, oak-studded landscape. Also check out Fernandez Ranch, between Hercules and Martintez, where dogs under reliable voice control can be off-leash so long as they steer clear of equestrians and other trail users.
