Counties
There’s a California county named after just about everything: gold (El Dorado), mountains (Sierra), saints (San Diego), rivers (Sacramento), trees (Redwood), and even bears (Los Angeles translates to “The Angels,” but its flag proudly features a bear). Yet, remarkably, there’s not a single county named after a dog. Think about that! Even without a county bearing their name, California’s canine companions have certainly left paw prints everywhere—from beaches to breweries, hotels to hiking trails—making the Golden State a true dog-friendly paradise.
