Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area

Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area

The Lafayette Recreation Area is a year-round, day-use park ideal for hiking, jogging, fishing, boating and picnicking, located off Highway 24 only one mile from the Lafayette BART station. Dogs are allowed so long as they are on-leash at all times. Note they are not allowed in the water.

There are two loop trails at Lafayette Reservoir: The Lakeside Nature Trail (paved, 2.7 miles) and the Rim Trail (unpaved, 4.7 miles). Including connector trails, Lafayette Reservoir offers over 10 miles of scenic hiking. Hikers are required to stay on designated trails.

Tables and BBQ grills are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Several picnic areas are available for reservation. If you like to fish, EBMUD plants trout October through April. The reservoir is also home to catfish, bass, and sunfish. In addition to a California State Fishing License, an EBMUD Fishing Access Permit is required and may be purchased at the Visitor Center.

Keeping our trails beautiful and dog-friendly is crucial to ensure everyone enjoys the great outdoors. Some people want to ban dogs from public spaces, but we believe dogs are essential members of our community. They bring joy, companionship, and energy to our hikes. To keep our trails open to our furry friends, we must be responsible. Pick up after your dog, keep them on a leash where required, and respect other trail users. By doing our part, we can ensure that our beloved pups remain welcome on all trails, allowing your pack to continue exploring and enjoying nature together.
