Sacramento’s status as “America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital” comes from its proximity to more than 1.5 million acres of farmland that support some 160 crops. Nearly area farmers’ markets showcase local ingredients, and chefs incorporate these elements into incredible meals. From the elegant Citizen Hotel, it’s easy to find fresh flavors and excursions for two- and four-legged guests.

Set two blocks from Capitol Park, the Citizen is a dog-friendly hotel that accommodates up to two dogs per room with a $50 per-night fee. The boutique property has connecting rooms and cribs for families, and its Grange Restaurant and Bar is a Michelin-recommended venue known for seasonal, locally sourced fare.

The Citizen is a walkable home base for guests catching events at the Golden 1 Center or visiting attractions like the Crocker Art Museum and Old Sacramento Waterfront. This 28-acre historic landmark district winds along the Sacramento River and wows travelers with cafes, shops and entertainment ranging from a playful pinball parlor to a rail museum where pups can explore outdoor exhibits with their people.

Few Sacramento restaurants celebrate dogs like MoJo’s Local Tap & Kitchen. The Midtown spot is named for the owners’ Great Pyrenees, and a pet wall features photos of diners’ furry family members. For more local bites with a four-paw pedigree, try one of two Sacramento Sellands locations, grab pizza on the Federalist patio, or order something special at Frog & Slim.

Three Cafe Bernardo locations serve local flavors for three meals a day, and Capitol Garage also dishes up breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour deals on the patio. Visit Sacramento has a helpful menu of more dog-friendly restaurants.
