Federalist Public House in Midtown Sacramento is built from shipping containers and designed around a sprawling beer garden—the kind of place where you can actually bring your dog without anyone batting an eye. The setup works really well for dogs because the whole thing is outdoors under cover, so you’re not navigating narrow indoor spaces or worrying about your dog being in someone’s way.

The food side is solid. They’ve got wood-fired pizza that comes out of a proper oven, and the beer selection focuses on local Sacramento craft breweries. You can grab a spot at one of the communal tables, which honestly makes it easier to keep your dog settled while you eat—they’re not tucked away in a corner but integrated into the overall vibe. The communal setup also means it’s easy to chat with other people dining nearby, though it’s worth noting that it can get social and busy, especially on weekends.

Beyond eating and drinking, there’s bocce ball and cornhole if you want to keep occupied. These games work fine with a dog around as long as yours isn’t going to chase the balls constantly. The whole operation is open Wednesday through Sunday, so plan accordingly.

Parking in Midtown can be tight, and this spot doesn’t have its own lot, so arriving early or on a weekday (when it’s less crowded) makes things easier. The covered beer garden means you can hang out here even if it’s warm or drizzly, which is nice for a dog that might get uncomfortable in direct sun or rain. Come mid-to-late afternoon if you want to avoid the heaviest crowds while still getting good food service.
