Family Dog Rescue has moved! The new shelter location is in the Bayview District.

Family Dog Rescue is dedicated to caring for their family-friendly dogs and ultimately finding them a forever home. They save family-friendly dogs of all shapes and sizes. They give priority to deserving-but-overlooked dogs in California’s overcrowded municipal shelters.

All dogs are carefully screened for good behavior and receive proper veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations. They seek out kid-friendly and dog-friendly dogs who can get along with everyone in your family.

While they do not accept dogs with a history of aggression, they are happy to save the underdogs, including blind/deaf, disabled, and shy dogs whom they believe have the potential to be ideal family dogs.

They are excited to find adopters who share their love of dogs. Their adoption process is a one-on-one interaction that looks past any formulaic checklist of the perfect dog owner.

They encourage families with young children to adopt a rescue dog, rather than buy from a puppy mill or backyard breeder.  They are proud to be the “first dog” for new or inexperienced adopters who have carefully weighed the responsibilities of dog ownership and are ready to start families of their own.

Not so long ago, the soulful Felipe was trying to survive on the streets of Tijuana. His quick wits and friendly personality served him well, but by the time he crossed paths with Family Dog Rescue, he was starving and hairless. Shortly after arriving in San Francisco, Felipe's life took a big turn for the better when an FDR foster family took him in, nursed him back to health (and hair!), and nurtured his love of people. more »

Launched when the founder shared the frustration of Bay Area parents who were turned away from adopting at shelters and rescues just because they had kids, Northern California Family Dog Rescue is based on the notion that families and dogs belong together. Not all families look the same, with many different mixes of adults, children and critters, but the idea at Family Dog Rescue is to find the dog that's going to be the ideal fit with that family. With that goal in mind, the rescue pulls dogs from shelters all over the state who would otherwise be in dire peril, and provides necessary care and training while waiting for their perfect match. more »
