The wineries at the Old Sugar Mill, a re-purposed sugar-beet processing factory in Clarksburg, are a bridge to the rich agricultural heritage of the region. The Old Sugar Mill is home to a  community of 14 wineries:
• Draconis by Matt Powell
• Todd Taylor
• Three Wine Company
• Elevation Ten
• Rendez-vous Winery
• Merlo Family Vineyards
• Clarksburg Wine Company
• Due Vigne di Famiglia
• Carvalho Family Winery
• plus a custom crush facility.

The majority of the vineyards are located in the Clarksburg AVA (American Viticulture Area), where vineyards are brushed by cool morning and evening breezes blowing up from San Francisco Bay along the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta.

Many festivals and special events are staged at the Sugar Mill throughout the year; it's also a popular wedding venue.

The San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta is a boater’s paradise that in places feels like anther world. But you don’t need a boat to explore this rich agricultural region marked with old-time lift bridges, small towns and miles of levees that in the id-1800s transformed a once trackless wetland into 55 agricultural islands that still produce food for Northern California (pears and wine grapes are the main crops). Numerous winery tasting rooms have cropped up over the past decade on both sides of the river, all of them dog-friendly. more »

The San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta (often referred to as the California Delta) is a maze of navigable waterways winding from Sacramento to the San Francisco Bay. You don’t need to go far out of town to get a taste of the farm towns, wineries and bucolic agricultural scenes alongside the Sacramento River. The dog-friendly places we recommend for a short outing are all within 15 miles of downtown Sac. more »

Yolo County, best known as the home of UC Davis, is also an emerging wine region bursting with dog-friendly surprises. Start your explorations in the south part of the county along Highway 160, the “River Road.” A major destination here (and one perfect for a rainy day) is the Old Sugar Mill, a repurposed beet-processing factory housing 10 dog-friendly tasting rooms and hosting special events many weekends. Nearby Miner’s Leap Winery features a beautifully landscaped, dog-friendly outdoor seating area beside a picturesque old barn housing the winery.

New on the scene in the Clarksburg region is Julietta Winery, whose tasting room, flanked with covered patios, is tucked into a bucolic rural landscape. Wines are made mostly from Napa-sourced grapes, and there’s often live music on Sundays. more »
