Call it a night in the Tri-Valley

By: DogTrekker Staff
A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

Sure, you could commute from the Bay Area or Sacramento, but why not make a weekend of it? After a day of hiking or touring the wine or craft-beer trails, it’s nice to stay for dinner, pull into a nearby hotel and spend the night. By our count, more than two dozen Tri-Valley hotels welcome four-legged visitors (use the handy dog-friendly check box at visittrivalley.com to filter hotels).

All the usual chain hotels and motels are represented. Word to the wise: some don’t charge extra for pets, some charge a modest $10-$25 and others impose a non-refundable deposit or cleaning fee of as much as $150.

Some examples: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pleasanton at the Club ($50 dog fee), at the intersection of Interstates 680 and 580, is well situated for visitors to Livermore Valley Wine Country, while Larkspur Landing Pleasanton ($75 per stay for dogs) is an all-suite hotel offering fully equipped kitchens and complimentary laundry facilities. Sheraton Pleasanton gets a “four paws up” from us, as it doesn’t charge extra for four-legged guests. Neither do the La Quinta Inns in Pleasanton or Livermore or the budget-priced Motel 6 properties in the same cities. Another budget choice is Tri Valley Inn & Suites near downtown Pleasanton. It may not have the latest 500-count, Egyptian cotton dog beds, but it’s clean, friendly, and reasonably priced.

Hyatt House in Pleasanton and Danville Sycamore Inn are among other recommended lodgings.
