Sea breezes and sand on the San Francisco Peninsula

Restaurants serve special pet menus, tap rooms and tasting bars have outdoor patios, and lodging options land at every price point. It’s easy to see why DogTrekker readers adore this destination.

Dog-friendly beaches are scattered throughout Half Moon Bay. Mavericks Beach, home to the famed surfing competition, is open to pups on leash. That’s also true at Poplar Beach, which is closer to town and a short drive from Half Moon Bay Dog Park.

While dogs aren’t allowed on the sand at Half Moon Bay State Beach, leashed canines can enjoy the park’s trails and picnic areas.

A few minutes north of downtown, Sam’s Chowder House has an outdoor patio that welcomes pups. So does Half Moon Bay Brewing, which serves up seafood, pub fare and house-made pints. It’s a short walk from the Inn at Mavericks, a cozy seaside stop with dog-friendly suites on the ground floor.

Half Moon Bay Inn, set in the heart of town, welcomes pups with food and water bowls and a pet-friendly restaurant patio. Pelican Point RV Park and Half Moon Bay RV Park also accommodate dogs, and each has thoughtful amenities and convenient beach access.
