With the holidays coming up, all of us at DogTrekker salute the life-saving work of dog rescues, and heartily recommend that you join us in adding your favorite rescue to your gift-giving list so they can do even more.

Thanks to the generosity of their many supporters, 2013 has been a year of major milestones. Several groups were able to move into spiffy new digs that will allow them to save even more critters and keep them more comfortable while they're waiting. Congratulations and welcome home to Lily's Legacy, Milo Foundation, and Wags and Whiskers.

Also congrats to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue! They moved into a new home themselves, and then had something even better to celebrate: their 2,000th saved dog, 9-year-old cattle dog Varsha. It took a village to get Varsha to safety: a Good Samaritan found her on the streets of Oakland in bad shape, and Oakland Animal Services, recognizing her as a great dog with few prospects at the city shelter, called Muttville. Now this little cutie with a loving disposition is recuperating nicely and waiting for someone to share her life with. Find out more about her, and Muttville's M2K celebration, here.

If you're headed to downtown San Francisco for the holiday festivities, don't miss the Holiday Windows at Macy's Union Square. This beloved annual tradition not only delivers an epic dose of cute with adoptable dogs and cats from the San Francisco SPCA, it gets a lot of them into new loving homes: 286 last year alone!

We wish you and your dogs the happiest of holidays, and hope we can all help the many less fortunate dogs be safe and happy in the weeks to come. photo: Varsha: Muttville Senior Dog Rescue With the holidays coming up, all of us at DogTrekker salute the life-saving work of dog rescues, and heartily recommend that you join us in adding your favorite rescue to your gift-giving list so they can do even more.
