Where to stay? Is it really possible to find a beautiful place near the beach for you and your pooch? In Surf City USA, absolutely. For years, many hotels in Huntington Beach have been on the leading edge of dog-friendly accommodations. Though Marilyn and I have not opted for a staycation yet, I can’t say we're not tempted. And the good news is, in most cases, we’d be staying right next to the ocean on one of the most beautiful beaches in California.

Recently, the city introduced “the HB Collection,” four premier oceanfront resorts in the heart of Huntington Beach that have joined forces with more than 1,400 guest rooms, all within a half-mile and walking distance to downtown shopping, local artisanal restaurants and the historic Pier. And guess what? They are all pet-friendly.

The Shorebreak Hotel understands the pet-friendly concept as well as anyplace. Pets of all types and sizes are welcome at this unique boutique hotel with the promise: "If your pet fits through the door, we'll welcome them in." They’ll help you spoil your pup with howlingly cool amenities, from front desk treats and plush pet beds to water bowls, cleanup bags and even a dog-friendly restaurant and menu. And get this: there’s a complimentary nightly wine reception from 5-6 p.m. for guests and their pets. They even keep “Directors of Pet Relations” on staff!

The Waterfront Beach Resort, a Hilton hotel, boasts the chain's "Wag It At The Waterfront" program. You and your dog can enjoy care packages, recognition by name on a "Doggie Reader Board," pet beds, feeding bowls, treats, cleanup bags, pet sitting services and even a pet room service menu.

The beautiful Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa welcomes dogs weighing 50 pounds or less. Amenities include food and water bowls, a pet pillow and dog treats available for purchase.

The new and luxurious Paséa Hotel & Spa takes things to an entirely new level starting with Moonshine, the French Bulldog Pet Concierge, who describes all the hotel's dog amenities including luxurious pet beds and food and water bowls, along with pet cleanup bags.

There are plenty of other pet-friendly places to stay in town, but hey, this is Surf City, and with this choice of spectacular, oceanfront hotels, why deprive your most faithful friend?
