Best dog-friendly cafés on The Peninsula

No need to leave your fur friend behind when it’s time for a coffee run. These are some of the best cafés on the San Francisco Peninsula to get a caffeine boost with your four-legged friends — perfect for slow mornings, post-walk treats, or a much-needed pick-me-up together.

Chit Chat Café – Pacifica, CA (two locations)

When you look this spot up for your next coffee run, you’ll notice that there are two locations in Pacifica. There is one located at 5 W Manor Drive and the other at the entrance of Pacifica Pier. Both are equally dog-friendly and equally enjoyable. The location on W Manor Drive offers indoor and outdoor seating, local art installations, and live music on Saturdays and Sundays. The location at the Pier has a smaller space but the same delicious coffee and food, some seating, and incredible views of the ocean. Both café locations are a great stop when you’re exploring nearby coastal trails with your canine companion!

Craftsman Coffee – Pacifica, CA

Located in a warehouse at 1750 Francisco Boulevard, Craftsman Coffee is a family-owned Pacifica coffee roaster serving thoughtfully sourced, small-batch roasted coffee out of their 1961 Citroen van parked inside. While dogs are not allowed in the shop, there are hooks by the entrance of the warehouse to attach leashes for your pupper to wait while you go in to order. Look out for their rotating pastries from local Bay Area bakeries and their food pop-ups featuring delicious foods like onigiri, BBQ, and more.

Downtown Local – Pescadero, CA

Down the coast, the quaint town of Pescadero welcomes you and your sidekick. Turning right onto Stage Coach Road from Pescadero Creek Road, you’ll soon pull up to Downtown Local on your left. Inside is a café unlike any others, chock full of eclectic, vintage finds, and retro mementos. It feels like a fun museum where most of the art is for sale. The Sunshine organic pantry is next door to Downtown Local and offers things like fresh local produce, milk, eggs, tinned fish, candles, and so much more. Order your coffee and savor it outside on the patio before you explore the rest of the town!

The Village Hub Coffee Bar and Garden – Woodside, CA

The Village Hub Coffee Bar and Garden is a charming outdoor café in the garden of Woodside Village Church. There is ample outdoor-only seating on a mix of cobblestone and wood chip areas. The menu covers café essentials like espresso drinks, brewed coffee, and tea alongside some fun extras like popsicles, baked goods, and yogurt parfaits with granola and jam. The hot maple latte, served in a mug “for here”, is a delectable go-to. With lots of sunshine, it’s an ideal spot to relax or socialize, with your dog by your side. Parking at the Village Hub is limited, with 6 spots and 1 accessible-designated spot but word on the street is that weekend overflow parking might be available across the street at the school. Just 0.2 miles down Woodside Road, The Village Bakery and Café (also dog-friendly) offers a full brunch, lunch, and dinner menu. There are also great pup-friendly hiking trails nearby within a 5–10-minute drive, like the Bridle Trail in Thornewood Open Space Preserve.

The Yard Coffee – Redwood City, CA

The Yard is tucked away in a literal yard (think: courtyard) surrounded by beautiful Craftsman buildings on Main Street in downtown Redwood City. This café currently operates out of one of these historic structures, the Carriage House, with plans to move into the larger Offerman House across the way. There is plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. On the weekend, there’ll often be music on the stereo, a local vendor selling handmade crafts, and of course, happy doggos with their happy humans. Try their drink La Azteca which is their take on the “Mexican mocha” with cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper. It is super tasty and has a kick!
