Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch 2018

Meet Bart, a large, easygoing senior guy who may be a bit past his crazy running-around stage but is enjoying excellent health in his golden years. He's looking for people who share his taste for the more relaxed sort of leisure activities: lounging in the sun, watching TV, and going for the occasional quiet stroll. Other dogs? He likes 'em. If Bart sounds like the guy for you, get in touch with his friends at Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch to set up a meeting! Send an email to Deassa Binstock at deassa@jamesonrescueranch.org to get things going. Read more.

When Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch says it doesn't give up on the dogs it takes in, the commitment is real. Take the story of Annie, who landed there after an unsuccessful shelter adoption. The pretty white pit-mix girl's separation anxiety and fear of confinement were so severe she'd break out of crates and scale fences with ease. Her deafness made it harder to communicate and reassure her, and more than one expert recommended euthanizing her. Read more.

Weatherproof Wine Tasting With Your Dog

Wineries in the Napa Valley number in the hundreds, and it’s a rare facility open to the public that turns away imbibers with leashes in hand. While some facilities relegate four-legged guests to their picnic grounds, others invite furry friends to belly up to the bar with their people (yes, Lucy, that’s a jar of treats on the counter…). Here are some weatherproof suggestions for winter wine tasting with a dog at your side. Read more.

Napa Valley’s Chow Palaces

Photo Credit: HannahWebb (CC) The dog-friendly attitudes that prevail at Napa Valley wineries extend to many of the region’s famous restaurants, as well, meaning that as long as the weather is fair, you can dine at an outdoor table with Patch at your side. Let’s start with the dog-friendly, Michelin-recognized places first. Earning “Bib Gourmand” (“eateries that offer excellent food at reasonable prices”) designations in 2015 are newcomers Grace’s Table (global cuisine) in downtown Napa and The Farmer and The Fox, a British-style gastropub in St. Helena. Retaining their ratings are Bistro Jeanty (French) and Redd Wood (Italian-inspired) in Yountville; and Oenotri (southern Italian) and C Casa (at the Oxbow Public Market; order at the outdoor window if you have a dog in tow) in downtown Napa. One-star restaurants that also boast dog-friendly patios include Bouchon (French) in Yountville and Solbar (farm-to-fork) in Calistoga. Read more.
