Breed Restrictions are the Pits

It can be a challenge to find dog-friendly accommodations when traveling with large dogs. It is common to discover that so-called dog-friendly hotels have pet policies with size restrictions, allowing small to medium sized dogs only. To make matters worse for some dog owners, many hotels add breed restrictions to their pet policy; no pit bulls, for instance. So, when we at DogTrekker.com hear from our readers about dog-friendly properties welcoming well behaved dogs of all breeds and sizes, we are happy to get the word out.

Recently we received a message from DogTrekker.com reader Kimm R. who wrote to tell us about her experience vacationing in San Luis Obispo with her two pit bulls, Bodie and Huck:Brodie in San Luis Obispo hotel

"We absolutely love the Dogtrekker newsletter and app. We are young empty nesters with two rescued pit bulls that are people friendly. We love the SLO beach area and Dogtrekker did not fail is. We found a wonderful place, San Luis Inn & Suites, where our boys were very welcomed. The office staff was amazing! Each morning the staff commented on how they loved our boys and asked if they needed anything. The cleaning staff even left two large milk bones on the boys' crates in our hotel room. It was so nice to find accommodations without breed restrictions, with a staff that treats pit bulls so well. We loved our stay at San Luis Inn & Suites and the kind treatment our pits received. Bodie and Huck give this experience two paws up!"

We love hearing paw-tested stories from our readers and want to share them with other DogTrekkers. Please join our growing group of official ‘Paw-Testers’ by writing in to tell us about your favorite dog-friendly places in California.

Share your favorite California dog experience, along with a photo or two, and we’ll post your trek in this section. Thanks and happy DogTrekking!
