AC Hotel Oakland Downtown sits right in the heart of Downtown Oakland with easy access to BART just a short walk away, which makes getting to OAK and SFO airports straightforward. The hotel has a clean, modern feel with European design touches that actually feel refreshing instead of sterile. I stayed here with my dog and found the location genuinely convenient for exploring the neighborhood without needing a car.
The rooms are well-appointed with the kind of practical amenities you actually use—comfortable beds, good water pressure, reliable Wi-Fi. They provide water and food bowls for your dog, which is a nice touch since you don’t have to hunt for extras. The hotel sits among a mixed area of office buildings, restaurants, and shops, so there’s enough going on nearby to keep you occupied. Lake Merritt is about ten minutes away if you want a proper walk with your dog in a green space.
The pet policy is straightforward: they allow up to two dogs with a 50-pound weight limit per dog. There’s a $50 non-refundable pet fee per night, capped at $150 for your stay. So if you’re staying three nights or longer, you know exactly what you’re paying upfront. The staff seemed accustomed to traveling with dogs and didn’t make a fuss about it, which is always appreciated when you’re not sure how welcoming a place actually is beyond their stated policies.
The hotel works well if you need to be near the business district or want access to public transit, and it’s a solid mid-range option that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Parking is available but it’s a downtown location, so factor that into your planning if you’re driving. The neighborhood itself is walkable enough for a dog, though you’ll want to stick to the more developed blocks rather than wandering too far off the main streets.
