Aptos Polo Grounds Dog Park sits right next to the soccer fields in Aptos, with a big meadow spread out behind it that gives the place a genuinely open feel. The whole setup is about an acre, so there’s real room for dogs to move around and actually get some exercise instead of just circling a small pen.

When we visited, we appreciated the water stations scattered around—important on warmer days along the coast. There are benches too, so you’re not stuck standing while your dog socializes. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset, which gives you a decent window depending on the season.

The location near those soccer fields means it’s pretty easy to find and access. The space itself feels less manicured than some dog parks, which honestly works in its favor. It’s just a good open area where dogs can do what dogs do: run, chase a ball, sniff around, and interact with other dogs without feeling crammed in.

The crowd tends to be local residents, which keeps things pretty relaxed. You’ll see a mix of dogs at different times, so if your dog prefers calmer play sessions, visiting during off-peak hours might work better for you.

The park doesn’t have much shade, so if you’re going midday in summer, plan accordingly. The ground is mostly grass and dirt, so expect some mud after rain. There’s an active Facebook group for the park where locals post updates about conditions and sometimes coordinate visits, which can be helpful if you want to know what to expect on a particular day.
