Calabasas Bark Park

4232 Las Virgenes Rd, Calabasas, California

The off-leash area at Calabasas Bark Park sits in a open meadow with scattered oak trees, giving it an airy feel compared to many LA dog parks boxed in by fencing. The park itself occupies land along Las Virgenes Road that slopes gently, so there’s enough grade to make running feel different from a flat lot, but nothing that punishes older dogs or those recovering from injury. The grass is real and holds up reasonably well through the year, though it thins in late summer.

Dogs are off-leash in the designated bark park area, which is fully fenced. There’s a separate small-dog section if you need it, though the main area usually feels relaxed enough that size doesn’t dominate the social dynamics. Water bowls are available, though during hot months you’ll want to bring your own water in a bottle or collapsible bowl—the bowls empty fast. The tree cover helps in afternoon heat, but morning visits give you the most shade if you’re going in summer. Parking is directly adjacent, so hauling gear in and out is straightforward.

The larger Calabasas Park area offers trails worth exploring once your dog has blown off steam at the off-leash section. Those paths wander through chaparral and oak woodland with views toward the surrounding ridges, and most dogs can handle them on a regular six-foot leash. The terrain is moderate—nothing steep—and you’ll pass seasonal water sources depending on rainfall, though these aren’t reliable. The park gets busier on weekends and early mornings, especially October through April when temperatures drop. Crowds thin significantly by midday and on weekdays. The grounds close at dusk, so plan your visit with a sunset in mind rather than assuming extended evening hours.
