Camino Real Park is approximately 39 acres of open space in Ventura with enough going on that you could easily spend an afternoon here with your dog. You’ll find sports fields scattered throughout, a snack bar if you get hungry, children’s play areas, picnic tables, barbecues, and restrooms spread across the grounds. The real draw for dog owners is the fenced dog park tucked into the southwest corner of the property, where your dog can run off-leash while you relax on the sidelines.
The dog park itself is well-designed with separate designated areas for large and small dogs, so your pup won’t get overwhelmed by size differences. Double gates at the entry and exit prevent dogs from bolting out unexpectedly, which is reassuring when you’re managing the transition in and out. There are drinking fountains for both dogs and people, so you won’t need to carry water if you forgot it.
Hours are dusk to dawn, which catches that popular evening window when lots of owners bring their dogs after work. Just make sure your dog has a current rabies vaccination and license before heading in—that’s a non-negotiable requirement for entry. Once you’re inside, keep your dog under voice control, stay actively supervising (not checking your phone from a bench), and bring bags for cleanup. The park enforces these rules pretty consistently, which keeps the whole area in decent shape for everyone.
Outside the dog park, dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the rest of Camino Real, so if you want to explore the larger grounds or grab a snack before or after dog park time, that’s totally doable. The layout means you could easily combine a quick dog park session with a family picnic or game without much hassle.
