Cascade Community Park

Cascade Community Park

Girvan Rd., Redding, California 96001

Cascade Community Park in Redding sits along Olney Creek, a tributary of the Sacramento River, and it’s a straightforward spot to spend a few hours with your dog without any fuss. The park has about a mile of paths total—.55 miles paved and .37 miles of dirt—all relatively flat, which works well for dogs who aren’t hikers or older pups who prefer easier terrain.

What you’ll find here are picnic tables scattered under big trees, a basketball court, a BMX bike track, drinking fountains, and a creek running alongside. The paved section is smooth enough for any dog to handle, while the dirt trails give you a chance to leave the main loop and let your dog explore the natural areas with some actual sniffing opportunities. It’s the kind of park where you can do a quick 30-minute walk or spend longer if you’re picnicking.

The creek is there, which is nice—some dogs like to wade in shallow spots during hot days, though the park doesn’t have dedicated dog water stations that I saw. Bring your own water bottle to be safe, especially in summer. The picnic tables are genuinely useful if you want to settle in for a bit. You won’t find crowds here like you might at Sacramento’s more famous parks, which is part of the appeal. It feels like a neighborhood spot rather than a destination park, which means you can usually find parking without circling around.

The setting is pretty typical for inland Shasta County—open, with trees providing decent shade but nothing dramatic. It’s useful if you’re already in Redding or live nearby and want somewhere to break up the day with your dog without driving far. During warmer months, the creek area stays cooler than the open grass, so head there if your dog wants some relief from the heat.
