The 30-acre Concord Community Park sits off the north side of Cowell Road between Hale Drive and Sheridan Road, right next to El Monte School. It’s a solid neighborhood spot with enough going on to keep a visit interesting without feeling crowded or overwhelming.
The main draw for dogs is the path that loops around the park—it’s flat and shaded, which matters a lot on warm days. You’ll see plenty of trees providing relief from the sun, and the walking pace is easy enough that older dogs or those not used to long distances can handle it comfortably. Waste bag dispensers are stationed along the route, though I’d recommend bringing extra bags just in case they’re empty when you show up.
The park itself has two reservable group picnic areas and scattered individual picnic tables with barbecues throughout, so if you’re coming with family or friends, there’s space to settle in for a while. There’s also a community pool and tennis courts on the grounds, which means the park does get busier during swim meets and organized events.
Dogs need to stay leashed the entire time you’re here. The parking situation can get tight, especially when those swim meets are happening, so arriving earlier in the day or on quieter weekdays helps. If the main lots off Cowell Road are full, you can also access the park from the end of Reed Way or Lancashire Drive, which sometimes have easier parking availability.
It’s the kind of park that works well for a straightforward walk and some shade time rather than an adventure—practical, accessible, and reliable. Bring water for your dog since the path itself doesn’t have fountains along the way.
