Karen Moureaux started Contact Point Agility back in 1992 as Southern California’s first dedicated agility training school, and it’s still going strong in Northridge. Over three decades, the club has introduced thousands of dogs and their owners to the sport of agility — everything from complete beginners to dogs already competing at advanced levels.
Classes run six days a week, so there’s usually something that fits your schedule. The instruction comes from people who actually compete in agility themselves, which makes a real difference. You’re not just learning techniques; you’re learning from trainers who understand what it takes to train a dog for competition. They can show you what works because they’ve done it with their own dogs.
Contact Point hosted the first AKC agility trial in Southern California and continues to organize both AKC and USDAA trials throughout the year. If you’re curious about agility but have never tried it, they also run introduction workshops and seminars that give you a real sense of what the sport involves before committing to classes. Beyond agility, they also host sanctioned herding trials if you’ve got a dog with herding instincts.
The club welcomes all dogs — mixed breeds and purebreds alike. You don’t need a particular breed or pedigree to get started. Whether your dog is a Border Collie bred for this work or a shelter dog who just seems to love jumping and weaving through obstacles, there’s a place for them here.
The Northridge location puts you in the San Fernando Valley, which is convenient if you’re anywhere in the LA area. Since they’ve been operating for over thirty years and have built a real community around the sport, you’ll find experienced people who can answer questions about everything from equipment to competition strategy.
