Cooperage Brewing Company sits in Santa Rosa’s industrial area, and it’s one of those places where you actually want to spend a few hours. The brewery focuses on hoppy and Belgian-style ales, with a rotating menu that means you won’t get bored if you become a regular. On my last visit, they had about eight beers on tap, ranging from something crisp and approachable to some seriously complex stuff that made you slow down and think about what you were drinking.
The real draw for me and my dog was the spacious outdoor seating area. It’s genuinely large—not just a token patio—and there’s enough room that your dog doesn’t feel cramped or stressed by other people’s dogs. The staff clearly gets it; they don’t make you feel like you’re doing them a favor by bringing your dog along. They’re knowledgeable about their beers without being pretentious, and they’ll chat with you about what pairs with what.
If you want to understand what’s actually happening behind the scenes, they offer brewery tours and tastings. It’s worth doing if you’re curious about the process rather than just the final product. The whole vibe is casual and unpretentious, which I appreciated. You can show up in your hiking clothes after a morning on the trails and fit right in.
The location isn’t particularly scenic—it’s surrounded by other industrial buildings—so don’t come expecting a view. Come for the beer, the space for your dog to relax, and the fact that nobody’s going to rush you out. On a nice afternoon, this is exactly the kind of place you want to land with your dog after exploring some of Sonoma County’s outdoor spots.
