Corona Heights Dog Play Area

263 Roosevelt Way, San Francisco, California 94114

The views from Corona Heights Dog Play Area span the entire bay—you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, downtown, and all the way to the East Bay while your dog runs. It’s one of the few dog parks in the city where the scenery rivals the social scene, and the hilltop location means you’re looking out over San Francisco rather than into a concrete corner.

The park has two separate areas: a larger fenced section for dogs over 25 pounds and a smaller enclosure for smaller dogs and those who prefer less chaos. Both are open sunrise to sunset. The ground is a mix of decomposed granite and grass, which drains reasonably well after rain but can get dusty in summer. There’s a water station in the main lot, though the park itself doesn’t have water spigots, so bring a collapsible bowl if you’re staying more than 20 minutes. Shade is limited—a few trees around the perimeter—so morning and late afternoon visits are more comfortable during hot months.

Corona Heights is in the Castro, accessible via Roosevelt Way just off Market Street. Parking is street-only, which fills quickly on weekends, especially mid-morning. The walk from nearby bus stops on Market Street is steep but manageable. The park tends to be quieter on weekday mornings and busier afternoons and weekends; Tuesday and Wednesday typically see fewer dogs. The hill itself means the terrain is rolling rather than flat, so dogs with joint issues may find the constant grade changes tiring. Keep in mind the wind picks up in late afternoon, and the elevation means it’s often 5-10 degrees cooler than the Mission or downtown, so bring a layer if you’re sensitive to that.
