Dave Brubeck Park spreads across eight acres on the north side of Concord Boulevard between Mendocino and Denkinger, right next to Concord High School. The park’s defining feature is a large open meadow surrounded by mature shade trees and gently mounded turf that creates a really pleasant landscape. A raised concrete stage sits in the middle, and you’ll see picnic tables scattered around for anyone who wants to settle in for a while.

The walking path that loops through the park works well for dogs since there’s plenty of shade from the established trees, which makes it comfortable even on warmer days. The park has restrooms and a children’s play area if you’re visiting with family. It hosts community events throughout the year, including the annual Singing Flag celebration and several classic car shows, so depending on when you visit you might catch something happening.

Parking takes a little planning since there’s no dedicated lot. Street parking is available in the residential neighborhood behind the park, and you can access the back entrance from Woodsdale Drive if that’s easier than finding a spot near Concord Boulevard. The setup is a bit more low-key than some larger parks, which can actually be nice if you’re looking to avoid crowds.

Keep in mind that dogs need to stay leashed here, so this isn’t a place to let your dog run free. The open meadow might look tempting for off-leash play, but the park’s rules are firm on that. The walking paths and shade make it a solid neighborhood park for a regular walk with your dog, especially if you’re in the area and want somewhere quieter than a busier recreational facility.
