Deerfield Ranch sits on a quiet stretch of Highway 12 between Kenwood and Glen Ellen, with vineyards rolling directly behind the tasting room and a genuine working ranch feel—the kind of place where you’re as likely to see horses in the paddocks as you are other wine visitors. The tasting patio runs along the south side of the main building, shaded by mature oaks, and overlooks the valley rather than the road, which makes it feel properly removed despite being right on the highway.
Dogs are welcome on the patio during tastings, and the winery keeps water bowls available for visiting dogs. The indoor tasting room is off-limits for dogs, but the patio setup is substantial enough that you won’t feel squeezed—tables spread out under the tree cover, and there’s genuine shade rather than just an umbrella or two. The property doesn’t typically run formal vineyard tours, but you can walk the grounds on your own with your dog if you’d like a stretch between pours; the terrain is mostly level around the immediate property.
The winery produces Zinfandels, Cabernet Sauvignons, and some Pinot Noirs, with flights and by-the-glass pours available. Sonoma cheese and charcuterie boards pair with wines, and they’re sizable enough to share a table comfortably. Hours run roughly 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., though it’s worth checking their website before heading out, especially in winter months. The drive from Kenwood town center takes about five minutes north on Highway 12. If your dog gets restless, the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park entrance is less than ten minutes south, so you could combine a quick wine stop with a longer trail walk on the same afternoon.
