Denver Dan’s Apple Patch sits in the Apple Hill region of El Dorado County, and it’s one of the few places around here where you can show up with your dog and actually have things to do together. The main draw is the you-pick apple orchard—six varieties ripen between Labor Day and mid-October, so depending on when you visit, you’ll find different options ready to harvest. We picked some crisp ones off the trees and filled our bucket in under an hour, which our dog was happy about since she got to wander the rows with us on leash.

Beyond picking, there’s a barn with a bake shop that sells apple strudel, pumpkin cheesecake, homemade jams, and gourmet vinegars. The craft shop has handmade seasonal goods if you want to grab something while you’re there. They also run cooking classes and apple wreath-making sessions throughout the season, plus farm tours if you want to learn how they actually grow everything.

The dog-friendly setup is straightforward—leashed dogs can go in the barn and walk around the grounds. The orchards give your dog decent space to move around and sniff while you’re picking apples, which beats standing in a parking lot. We didn’t feel rushed, and there were enough people around that it didn’t feel lonely, but it wasn’t so crowded that you’re dealing with huge lines.

One practical note: the barn and shop areas can get busy on weekends, especially in October when the weather’s nice. If you’re visiting with your dog, early morning or a weekday visit means fewer people to navigate around and a calmer experience overall. The grounds are pretty casual, so there’s no pretense about dogs being there. Just bring plenty of water and maybe a collapsible bowl—it can get warm while you’re out in the sun picking fruit.
