Diablo Foothills Regional Park

Diablo Foothills Regional Park

Diablo Foothills Regional Park is the gateway to the parklands of Mount Diablo State Park and Walnut Creek Open Space. The Foothills’ 1,060 acres are valued for their striking geologic formations, sweeping panoramas of the San Francisco Bay Region and the rural quality of the its rolling grasslands. An easy, 4.4 mile hike with your dog starts at the the Livorna Staging Area. There are a few short, steep segments, but the footing is easy unless it’s hot. Spring is the best season to see wildflowers and wildlife. Dogs are welcome to join you on leash.

There are two ways to get there. To get to the Northern Staging Area, exit I-680 at Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek and drive east. After about three miles turn right on Walnut Avenue. After about two miles turn right on Oak Grove Road, then bear right onto Castle Rock Road and follow it to the Orchard Staging Area on the right. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Road. To get to the Southern Staging Area, exit I-680 at Livorna Road. Head east about three miles to the Livorna staging area just west of Stonegate Drive in Alamo.

There are no developed facilities in the park. Check the website to confirm hours they are open as they vary by season.

Keeping our trails beautiful and dog-friendly is crucial to ensure everyone enjoys the great outdoors. Some people want to ban dogs from public spaces, but we believe dogs are essential members of our community. They bring joy, companionship, and energy to our hikes. To keep our trails open to our furry friends, we must be responsible. Pick up after your dog, keep them on a leash where required, and respect other trail users. By doing our part, we can ensure that our beloved pups remain welcome on all trails, allowing your pack to continue exploring and enjoying nature together.
