DeGarmo Park’s dog run sits in a tree-lined corner of this Gold Country park, with mature oaks providing genuine shade—something you’ll appreciate during Grass Valley’s hot summers. The main enclosure sprawls across a good chunk of fenced acreage with a grassy surface that handles the moderate foot traffic well, and a separate smaller section lets you keep your dog away from the bigger, rowdier crowd if that’s what you need.

The dog run is open during DeGarmo Park’s regular hours, and while there’s no fee to use it, the space operates on an honor system—owners are expected to pick up after their dogs and watch them at all times. Dogs must be on-leash outside the fenced areas, and the park staff takes that seriously. The water feature in the main park means you can refill a bowl, though it’s worth bringing your own or confirming the spigot situation when you arrive during peak times on weekends.

The park itself sits just off Minnie Street in central Grass Valley, within walking distance of the downtown district but far enough removed that it stays quieter than you’d expect. The terrain is mostly flat with some gentle slopes, which makes it easy for older dogs or pups still building endurance. Summer mornings and early evenings draw the typical crowd; midday tends quieter. Winter can turn the grass muddy, so timing matters if your dog’s a mud-magnet. Bring a towel and plan for a cleanup pit stop before heading back to your vehicle.
