Lincoln Park at Broadway and Pacific is now home to the Downtown Dog Park in Long Beach, Los Angeles County. Established in September 2015, this park transformed a historic civic center space into a genuine hub for downtown residents and their dogs. The setup includes separate areas for large and small dogs, which makes a real difference when you’re trying to find the right fit for your dog’s size and play style.
The park itself is genuinely spacious, giving dogs room to move around without feeling cramped. You’ll find waste stations throughout, water fountains so you don’t have to bring endless bowls, and benches scattered around where you can actually sit and watch. On weekends, it gets busy with the downtown crowd, which means good socialization opportunities if your dog enjoys meeting others. Weekday mornings tend to be quieter if your dog prefers a calmer scene.
The location works well if you’re downtown for other reasons—there’s plenty of parking nearby and it’s close enough to grab coffee or lunch at one of the restaurants along Broadway before or after. The park’s position in the civic center means it has decent shade from existing trees, which matters during those hot Southern California afternoons.
One thing to note: being in the heart of downtown, it gets urban noise from traffic and nearby construction sometimes, so if your dog is sound-sensitive, you might want to pick your timing. But if your dog is social and you’re looking for a solidly maintained park where you can spend 30 minutes to an hour without driving far from downtown Long Beach, this does the job well. The separate small dog area means even smaller or older dogs can have their own space without getting bowled over by the big dogs on the other side.
