Dracena Dog Park

Dracena Dog Park

Dracena Dog Park

130 Dracena Avenue, Oakland, California 94611

(510) 420-3050

Dracena Dog Park sprawls across a hillside in the Oakland hills with enough room that dogs can run without constant crowd navigation. The park’s main area opens onto a sloping grass field bordered by mature oak trees that provide genuine afternoon shade. A separate fenced enclosure for small dogs sits at the upper end, so owners with tiny or timid dogs don’t have to navigate the main activity. The terrain transitions from grass to decomposed granite on the lower slopes, with variety in footing and drainage that holds up reasonably well even after rain. The hillside location means sun exposure increases as afternoon progresses, so bring water on hot days.

Dogs are welcome off-leash throughout both areas during posted hours, which typically run dawn to dusk. A water fountain for dogs operates on-site, though owners should bring additional water during warm weather. The small-dog section uses similar surfaces and has its own water access. The park closes at dusk without fail. The Oakland Parks and Recreation department enforces leash requirements outside the designated off-leash zones—keep your dog on lead on the walk in and out through the access areas.

Dracena Avenue forms the park’s address, about a fifteen-minute drive from downtown Oakland. Street parking lines the approach, and the lot near the entrance fills quickly on weekends, particularly Saturday mornings. Weekday visits, especially mid-morning or late afternoon, see lighter crowds. The sloped terrain gives dogs a workout even in the smaller area, and the grass can get muddy during wet months despite the decomposed granite sections. Bring a towel for the car ride home if your dog rolls in mud. Plan accordingly and allow extra time for cleanup after visits during rainy seasons.
